Preparation for battle!

Preparation is important. It's crucial, it's vital for the survival of a soldier when war comes. Whether you are a sportsman, soldier, doctor, lawyer, engineer, architect, chef, artist, scientist, or any other possible working person out there, preparation means a lot. And we all know that.

But preparation can be hard and long. It can be so long that when you are in it everything seems so pointless. One can easily lose direction and a sense of purpose in this long long long longgggg process. It grinds us with boredom at times, stress at other times, and purposelessness almost all the time.

I think most students can identify themselves to these circumstances.

Why should i need to know about how to do lab work if i'm not gonna work in a lab? Why should i need to know about the ten million bad things about tobacco when ten would do the job? Why should i need to know about how nuclear radiation can affect people when nuclear related cases are unheard of in malaysia? Why should i?

Then i realised, i've been saying the 'i' word too much. The truth is, it's not about me, and when that realisation happens time after time, it's refreshing. The burden gets lifted. It's a great great feeling. I know i've mentioned this in the past before. But it's amazing to feel this feeling again and again.

It makes me wanna grab any opportunities available and just learn stuff like a sponge. After all, who am i to tell what is gonna be important in 5, 10, 15, 20 or even 40 years time? who am i to tell which kinda information would i need in the future?

At times, i read the bible saying "hey, this book shows people at the peak of their lives. What happens before that? are they just the average joe? did they live life just waiting for the magic to unwind itself? Did they go for it? What kinda attitude did they have? did they live life reluctantly? Did they even hate the long tiring process of preparation just for that tiny moment of doing something extraordinary enough to be recorded and remembered?"

Then today happened. It was the same old story of how the servant got Rebekah as Isaac's wife. So the servant went back to the far away town and prayed that 'the one' would be a girl who would not only give the servant some water, but water all 10 camels too!!!! that's a crazy job for a young, beautiful girl.

But she did it, without even knowing how special this stranger was. She did it when she was only asked for water for a person, not 10 thirsty camels. And no, it wasn't sheep, it wasn't dogs but huge camels which drank a lot of water! She did it like how she would do it on any other day. Nobody told her specifically to do it that day to that person. Yet she did it.

She might have thought it was just another day of preparation. She might have done it without knowing that she would be blessed with a huge reward. She might have done it while  never thinking she would be any more significant in life other than being a beautiful girl in that small little town that would just disappear off the map some day.

She had the same excellent spirit so many other bible heroes had. A spirit of excellence in the most mundane of things. I need that now. :)
