i'm looking through malaysian ministry of health page (no i'm not looking for chua soi lek)... was just interested in our health ministry stats, esp after learning about the top global killers. And shocked i was.
Guess what is the top cause of death in MOH hospitals in 2006?
Don't know? Heart attack? Cancer? Stroke? AIDS? Diabetes?
Wrong.
It's septicaemia! OH MAN! "What emia? What's that? What on earth? is it like leukemia?" i can so imagine a patient say that if u tell he/she/neither he nor she about that.
It's blood infection. Ok, some of u might know it. But how many? 16+% of deaths in MOH hospitals are due to septicaemia, and i bet with u that the general public are not sure what on earth it is. What more the signs and symptoms, or what to do when they get them. The sad thing is septicaemia is curable when it is diagnosed early.
No, i haven't heard bout govt educating anyone on septicaemia. What is the use of producing statistics when you don't use them? It's like knowing you are hungry, cook your favourite food, but refusing to eat anything.
Nonsensical!
I'm eagerly waiting for 2007 stats to be released, but it should be quite a long time from now.
Another point to note. In ALL MOH hospitals nationwide, there are ONLY about 30 000 beds to cater for a population of 25 million. We were lucky that the Acheh tsunami did not strike Malaysia in full force. Sorry, not enough beds here.
But, MOH still deserve credit for immunization programmes. Definitely a good job for a developing country like Malaysia.
